Opened as Aloft South Beach in 2015, the 235-room property is now under new ownership as The Gates Hotel. Built around the 1954 Motel Ankara, it preserves some of the original Art Deco architecture and original pool shape in the historic wing while adding an eight-story tower. Rooms are loft-like with choice of king or two queen beds. On Lake Pancoast in the Intracoastal Waterway north of Lincoln Road, it has such extras as a 24-hour fitness center, roof-top terrace, yoga lessons and free bikes. As the Aloft, it was the official host of the 2015 White Party.
