The News Café at 800 Ocean Drive was a pioneer in South Beach, opening in 1988 as a sidewalk café with a news kiosk, a mix of jazz and classical music and basic American fare like sandwiches and salads. That simple newsstand has grown into a separate retail space selling publications from all over the world, News Café souvenir clothing and fancy tobacco products. A full-service kitchen is open 24 hours, and the bar creates its own exotic tropic drinks, some served in a hand-carved coconut.
