Coney Island is a piece of New York waterfront history.  Though no one would claim it's relaxing, you certainly won't get bored: beer, boardwalk karaoke, volleyball, video arcades, and Pedi cab rides are just some of the diversions on offer, and it's less than an hour from Manhattan on the subway.
