An uptown branch of the Metropolitan Museum, the Cloisters is a museum of medieval art perched on four acres overlooking the Hudson River. The museum houses a breath-taking collection of medieval sculpture and decorative arts including the famed Unicorn Tapestries in a building constructed from parts of five cloistered abbeys in Europe and incorporating a Gothic chapel. Its gardens are particularly lovely in spring and fall. It can be reached by public transportation: the A train to 190th Street or the M4 bus.
