With a prime Tenderloin district location on Larkin Street for over a century, The Gangway is San Francisco's oldest gay bar. A white ship juts out from the blue storefront, behind which a dark, boozy, old-timer interior which has served as a community space since before the Prohibition through police raids, the civil rights movement, the first gay pride parade and the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic. It remains to be seen if it will survive gentrification. Drinks are strong and very cheap. Opens at 8 am.
