This 210-foot tower named after 19th-century cross-dressing heiress Lillian Hitchcock Coit--a patron of the local fire brigade who was also a notorious gambler--is said to resemble a fire-hose nozzle. But whatever it brings to mind, the impressive white stone structure at the top of Telegraph Hill is one of the best vantage points in the city. The tower itself does have a few interesting murals inside, but people come for the flower gardens and the views.
