The only women-run community center in the country, The Women's Building has been serving local people in need since 1979, offering any number of services from free dance classes to computer training. Located in the Mission, the building itself is something of a landmark, having been decorated by a world-renowned team of muralistas with the "Maestrapeace" mural, depicting American women innovators like poet Audre Lord and former US Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders.
