Following the devastating 1980 eruption, President Ronald Reagan established the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Approximately 2.5 hours south of Seattle, today it has attained national park status and is great destination for wildlife and volcano watching, hiking, fishing and camping. Stop in the observatory and the forest learning center.
