The National Mall's War Memorials are clustered to the east end of the Reflecting Pool, and honor those lost in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Meant to be walked through, and inscribed throughout with quotes from Presidents and armed service members, these contemplative and moving memorials were designed by artists and sculptors to elicit quiet reflection and are often marked with letters and flowers from visiting veteran or family members.  Stop by any of the fountains and pools for a moment of silence.
