Though the interior is closed to the public, the ornate exterior of Al-Bahr Mosque - built by Turkish governor Muhammed Abu Najat Aja in the early 19th century - is well worth a visit. The carved doors, graceful pillars and spacious restored courtyard are a stunning example of the architecture of this period. Also known as the Sea Mosque, it's located close to Carmel Market, so makes a nice addition to a morning of shopping.
