The Iron Man Nice with 70 per cent foreign participants is a challenging triathlon that grew out of the Nice Triathlon in 2005. It begins with a two-loop, 2.4-mile (4 km) swim in the Mediterranean, a 112-mile (180 km) bike ride with 6,000 feet (nearly 2,000 m.) of demanding climbs through mountain villages and a grand finale 26.2 mile (42 km) run with a flat and fast four-loop course on the Promenade des Anglais. It attracts big crowds along the way.
