The island of Lesvos was created via volcanic eruption, and the resulting landscape is endowed with a number of naturally occurring hot springs cherished for their healing properties. Most popular are the Eftalou Springs, near the town of Mithymna, a little over an hour from Skala Eressos. The bathhouse has both communal and individual soaking tubs with temperatures of 47ºC where for less than $5 you can soak away your aches and pains. Rumored to treat blood pressure, gallstones, rheumatism and neuralgia, the waters contain high levels of chlorine and radium. Post-soak ten-minute massages are available for around $10.

The bathhouse is ok. Don't expect any luxury or comfort and you'll be alright. When the weather is right you can even have a sunbath on one of the two plastic sunbeds available ;-) Do take your watershoes!
