Bijlmermeer
  • Cultural & Historical

Considered a failed architecture project, the Bijlmermeer is a colossal post-war urban development constructed in 1966, with 40,000 high-rise dwellings, built on an industrial scale. The first demolition began in 1995, but by then the estate had already inspired Sheffield's Park Hill and Toulouse's Le Mirail as well as many other tower blocks around the world. Get off the beaten tourist track and explore the the beautiful graffiti murals in the area.
