El Cairo opened in 1943 and established itself as a destination for local and visiting intellectuals and artists, including acclaimed Argentine cartoonist and writer Roberto Fontanarrosa . Although closed in 2002 and then renovated and reopened in 2005, the bar preserves its historical charms and old world bistro atmosphere. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it gets crowded on weekends.
