Los Guachimontones is a pre-Columbian archeological site with unique round stepped pyramids and the largest ball court in Meso-America. Discovered by chance in the 1970s by archeologists visiting a nearby hot springs, it is 25 miles (40 km) west of Guadalajara and covers almost 100 acres (c. 40 ha). Models of the complex are displayed at the Museum of La Casa de Cultura in Teuchitlán, a half block west of the plaza. It is included in a larger UNESCO World Heritage Site.
