Mexico's rich political history from the Spanish conquest to the Mexican Revolution is displayed at the National Museum of History, suitably and spectacularly installed in Chapultepec Castle where Maximilian I resided during his short-lived reign. High on Chapultepec Hill, it offers a fine overview of the city as well as Mexican history. It can be reached by a ramp or a small train. Nearby are the National Museum of Anthropology and the Museo Caracol, a collection of maps, dioramas, models and documents related to Mexican independence.
