Los Feliz, a neighborhood north of East Hollywood and just south of the Santa Monica Mountains, is where Mickey Mouse was born in a Kingswell Avenue garage owned by Walt Disney's uncle. Griffith Park on the north side is one of the largest city parks in the US and home to the Hollywood Sign, hiking trails, Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles Zoo, golf courses and picnic grounds. In literature, it is the scene of gay pick-ups in John Rechy's novel "City of the Night" and nonfiction "The Sexual Outlaw." Los Feliz is also worth a visit for its trendy sidewalk cafes, theaters and boutiques and outstanding architecture including the Ennis House and Hollyhock House by Frank Lloyd Wright and Lovell House by Richard Neutra.
