Featuring a strong collection of 20th and 21st century American Art, the Whitney has been a major player in the New York art world since 1931. Previously uptown on Madison Avenue, it has moved downtown where it has over 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries, 13,000 square feet of outdoor exhibitions and a notable restaurant called "Untitled." The dramatic building, designed by Renzo Piano, faces the High Line and is part of the revitalized downtown scene. It is open to 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays for night-owl art lovers.
