Valley Forge is where General George Washington and his troops camped out while the British occupied Philadelphia during the winter of 1777-78. The brutal conditions cost the lives of 2,000 Continental soldiers. History comes to life through reenactments, visits to buildings and monuments and guided tours. The more than 3,600 acres (nearly 1500 ha) also offer biking, hiking and horseback riding.
