"From Detroit Michigan came the legendary soul sounds of Motown Records, founded in 1959 by Berry Gordy Jr. Featuring timeless artists like Diana Ross and the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, Gladys Night, the Jackson 5, and so many more. Signature elements of the Motown sound were melodic bass lines, strong rhythms with tambourines on the back beat, and vocal call and response with gospel-like harmonies. Come see School of Rock Portland students performing songs from this amazing catalog!
