Cape Heritage Hotel in a historic building dating from 1771 serves breakfast in its courtyard under the oldest known fruit-bearing grapevine in South Africa. The 17 rooms, furnished tastefully and traditionally, combine European and African and come in various shapes and sizes. The hotel is the anchor in the Heritage Square preservation project, which saved a group of 18th century Dutch colonial buildings from being razed for a parking lot. Many have been turned into charming restaurants and cafés. The hop-on-hop-off bus stops nearby.
