The Inverdoorne Game Reserve, only 2.5 hours from Cape Town, is a private game reserve with over 1,200 animals including lions, leopards, rhinos, African buffalo and elephants. Formerly a failed fruit and livestock farm, it covers 10,000 hectares (nearly 25,000 acres) of semi-arid wilderness in the Klein (Small) Karoo. It features a cheetah rehabilitation sanctuary, morning and afternoon game drives, guided bush walks and star gazing. It can be visited as a day trip from the city, but also has overnight accommodations at the Ibiza Safari Lodge. Daytime temperatures are high during South Africa's summer months.
