The 45-room Vagabond Hotel, formerly motel, takes you time-traveling to the 1950s when the architect Robert Swartburg designed it after he did the Delano on Miami Beach. It's also said that Sinatra's Rat Pack and their show girls partied around mosaic pool. In the 21st century update, period designer Stephane Depoux kept the original terrazzo and wood floors but custom-made the new furnishings to look like the old. Just keep that in mind. It's a commute to downtown or South Beach but convenient to Wynnwood and the Design District (the Furniture District when the Vagamond was new), and this stretch of Biscayne Boulevard, once frequented by hookers, is blossoming with restaurants, wine bars, design shops and upscale thrift shops.
