Miami is One Big Playground

Recommended for : Family

Book into the family-friendly Holiday Inn Port of Miami at 340 Biscayne Blvd. in downtown Miami where kids 19 and under can stay free in their parents' room on a pull-out couch and children 12 and under eat free from the children's menu. Valet parking is available at $27 a day.

The first morning travel by car or taxi only a few minutes to Watson Island to visit the Miami Children's Museum or Jungle Island. Little ones will enjoy exploring the interactive exhibits at the Children's Museum and walking through a six-foot piggy bank. Older children will appreciate the animal shows and interactions at Jungle Island, the former Parrot Jungle.

Head to lunch at Bayshore Market, which has a wide choice of eating options, including a food court and a fun family-friendly restaurant called Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. with indoor and outdoor seating. Buy your souvenir t-shirts at one of the shops.
Cruise Biscayne Bay for an hour and a half on the Island Queen departing out of Bayshore Market. Napping is optional.
Return to your hotel across the street for a swim in the pool or a siesta before dinner in the hotel or at Bayshore Market where there will be live music.
Before bedtime, plan tomorrow: a perfect beach day at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, reached by car or public bus 102, route B, from the Brickell Metrorail Station.
