Manly, home of the Australian Open of Surfing, is where the world's first surfing championship was held in 1964. Surfers head for the north end of the beach. Shelley Beach to the south is better for snorkeling, diving, kayaking and picnicking. Other activities include beach volleyball, bicycling, coastal walks and strolls along the tree-lined Corso promenade filled with pubs, restaurants and shops. Ferries make the 30-minute trip across the harbor from Circular Quay.
