The 19-acre Key West Cemetery dates from 1847 and contains some 100,000 bodies, buried in sections determined by faith and ethnicity. A plot for the dead of the U.S. Maine, blown up in Havana Harbor, was dedicated in 1900. The cemetery with in-ground and crypt burials is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
