The Getty Villa, designed in the 1970s to house J. Paul Getty's art collection, is modeled on a Roman country villa buried after Vesuvius erupted. When the art outgrew the space, it was moved to the the Getty Center, but Getty's extensive antiquities collection remains at the villa. Admission is free, but an advanced timed-entry ticket is required. Various tours are given throughout the day.
