The New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy, showcases top young instrumentalist talent. Its building was designed by Frank Gehry and features a giant screen where concerts and movies are often televised for free viewing from the park. Openly gay Michael Tilson Thomas is founder and musical director of the New World Symphony as well as music director of the San Francisco Symphony and principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra.
