The NYC Poetry Festival was founded to give diverse artists a large public platform, and every July, this two-day multi-stage extravaganza takes Governors Island by storm. Over 250 poets from 60 poetry societies unite for a weekend of disruptive art - no topic is off-limits. Children are encouraged to perform as well. Tickets are free, and the festival accepts art submissions. Open 11 am to 5 pm each day.
