The most "Portland" of tiny live theater spaces, The Back Door Theater is housed behind (and entered through) the Common Ground Coffee Shop on popular Hawthorne Blvd. Home to the dark and edgy Defunkt Theatre, which explores violent and difficult themes and produces a variety of plays with queer characters, but also hosting other performances who rent the space. Common Ground provides a perfect place to meet before or after.
