A delightful jumble of theatrical acts--staged at one of The Exit's three black-box theaters in the Tenderloin--the San Francisco Fringe Festival shines the spotlight on indie theater in all its unpolished glory. For almost 25 years the festival has taken over two weeks every fall to showcase the voices of small theater groups from around the country. This year, 150 performances by 35 different companies will open from September 11 to the 26th. Tickets are cheap, just $12 at the door, and proceeds go to support the independent arts.
