The first spa in Paris when it opened in 1885 and an internationally famous nightclub designed by Philippe Starck in 1978, Le Bains Douches is back in a new reincarnation as a boutique hotel. Now owned by French film-maker Jean-Pierre Marois ("American Virgin"), it features 39 guest rooms and suites decorated by Tristan Auer, who did the design for Mick Jagger's Loire Valley chateau. The restaurant, retaining the original domes and rotundas, serves seasonal, locally sourced cuisine with honey direct from hives on the roof. Its club tradition continues an intimate event space in the basement which retains Starck's black-and-white checkerboard dance floor and hosts concerts, performances and parties.
