Nightlife

There is little that hasn't been said about Berlin's nightlife. With parties lasting more than forty-eight hours, a sex-club culture, and a legendary techno scene, it is the hedonist's city on a hill. The bars are countless and yet all somehow equally crowded, and though the more established ones all supposedly cater to different demographics, the clientele tend to overlap depending on happy hours and space (the only real rule is to go where the drinks are cheap on any given day , and when the place gets too crowded, dispatch to a party or overflow into another venue around the corner). The dress code is casual and, though you'd do well just to dress down, androgyny and a vague irony will get you all the attention. Almost all of the gay parties are more queer than gay, and almost all of the parties are queer, which is why there seems to be a healthy representation of the gender spectrum at most events. In the bar scene, however, the selection for lesbians is spottier than for gay men. The city, perhaps, makes up for this during the day, with countless women-centric (and often women-only) cafés, meet-ups, and discussions.
