On December 1 each year, Friends of the AIDS Memorial mark World AIDS Day with a candle-lit procession and the reading of over 1,000 names of AIDS victims who lived, worked or vacationed in Key West, which was per capita one of the hardest hit by the epidemic in the late 1980s. New names are added annually.
