Chef Elise Kornack and her wife Anna Hieronimus, sole employees of Take Root in Brooklyn, earned a 2015 Michelin star as "one of the most personal culinary endeavors you''ll ever experience". The living room-size restaurant has 12 seats and a single service three nights a week, with an ever-changing, 10-course tasting menu of contemporary American cuisine served promptly at 8 pm. Past items have included black rice with chocolate mousse, butternut squash with beef sweetbread and lobster, and a white-chocolate parfait with quince and fried wheat berry. Reservation required well in advance and one of the hardest to get in town.
