The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade is a mini-Rose Bowl parade with decorated golf carts as the floats plus marching bands, clowns and cheerleaders, color guards, bag pipers and military vets, celebrating the birth of the golf cart at Thunderbird Country Club. Anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 turn out every year for what began as a lark - started over a half century ago when Phil Harris, Alice Faye and other celebrities who wintered in "the golf capital of the world" wanted some fun. There's a pancake breakfast before the parade and a children's activities area.
