Yes, it's been nicknamed the Glass Coffin, and though the crowd does skew way over 40, it's still a landmark bar and an integral part of the fabric of The Castro. This was the first gay bar with windows facing the street, and was opened in the early 1970s by lesbian business partners Mary Ellen Cunha and Peggy Forster. Today Twin Peaks Tavern has landmark status, and is owned by two men who used to work for the original owners as bartenders. Come to meet the regulars and play some cards or backgammon.
