Directly opposite the Smithsonian Metro Station are the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art, which together house one of the largest collections of Asian art in America. The Sackler is below-ground and boasts an impressive array of Chinese bronzes and jades, Near Eastern gold and silver metalwork, and centuries-old Islamic manuscripts. In contrast the Freer Gallery is a light and airy example of the Italian Renaissance style.
