On the ground floor of the Old Clae Hotel, Automata looks more like a body shop than one of the world's most innovative restaurants. The decor is all stainless steel and concrete with long communal tables and a chandelier made from a WWII airplane engine. The award-winning kitchen is manned by the young Australian Chef Clayton Wells whose cuisine has been described as "powerful" and "provocative." His five-course tasting menu at A$88 (US$67) changes regularly. A three-course luncheon menu is A$55 (US$42).
