Built by the Asam brothers - one a sculptor and stuccoist, the other a painter - as a private chapel, the aptly named Asamkirch is an 18th century Baroque and Rococo church. Through the tall wooden doors is a dimly lit and opulent interior of elaborate frescoes and gilded woodwork. Look for a wax effigy of St. John Nepomuk in the glass sarcophagus to whom the church is dedicated.
