Named after a former casting facility from the 15th and 16th century where church bells were produced, the Glockenbachviertel is definitively Munich's trendiest district and has been for a long while its gayest. It's a rather youthful quarter full of boutique shops, old buildings being reclaimed by forward-looking start-ups, cocktail bars (the gay ones are on Müllerstraße), and a large number of hair salons. And a visit is not complete without a few sunny hours spent lounging in the Gärtnerplatz, the beautiful garden at its center.
