Formerly a working class quarter built to ease the overpopulation in the Jordaan district in the 19th century, this neighborhood is now a melting pot of different nationalities and cultures, with a vibrant and cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is home to the Latin Quarter as well as many cafés, restaurants, coffee shops and bars, as well as the Albert Cuypmarket with over 100 shops.
