Since 1997, tourists have been hopping the Tequila Express on weekends to travel about 25 miles (40 km) northwest to the Tequila Herradura distillery in Amatitán. On board, as the train travels through blue agave fields, are live mariachi music and tequila tastings. The roundtrip ticket includes a visit to the distillery, a typical Mexican dinner and dances at the Herradura hacienda - and more tequila. When the train is under renovation, the trip is made by bus.
