Begun in 1985 to help restore a decaying downtown, the Historic Center Festival has grown into one of the most important cultural celebrations in Latin America. The festival features top entertainers from around the world, art exhibits, culinary treats and a variety of events at various venues. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the Centro Histórico has over 400 important cultural sites in a nearly 670-block area.
