The Audubon House was never visited by the artist when he visited Key West to paint 22 local birds for posterity. It was built by a wealthy maritime pilot and wrecker several years after Audubon passed through, but it has been restored into an elegant home reflecting the riches of Key West of its time. The Mitchell Wolfson Family Foundation of Miami stepped in to save the mansion from destruction in 1958, making it the first large scale restoration of its kinds in Key West. The gallery and gift shop have Audubon original lithographs, modern reproductions, antique prints and one-of-a-kind gift items. Hours are 9:30 am - 5 pm.
