The Los Angeles Arboretum is in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains about 13 miles northeast of downtown. The 127-acre (51 ha) arboretum and botanical garden is on a small part of historic Rancho Santa Anita, a vast Mexican land grant, and home to a flock of several hundred peafowl introduced in Rancho Santa Anita in the late 19th century. Often used as a movie set - think Tarzan and Jurassic Park, it is the setting for concerts, weddings and special events. About 10 minutes (4.4 mi) down the road in San Marino is the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens if you want to make it a day.
