Completed in 1869 from a design by esteemed architect Calvert Vaux, Central Park's Belvedere Castle is a whimsical fairy-tale castle-in-miniature. Found on the second-highest point in the park, the castle's multiple pavilions and observation decks provide breathtaking views of the surrounding park and city-scape. The Central Park Conservancy offers guided walking tours of the building and its surrounding grounds which include a turtle pond, vista rock, and weather station. Bring kids to the Henry Luce Observatory, where they can browse educational displays, or have them keep an eye out for the many migratory birds that pass through here. Admission is free.
