The 56-room Colony Palms Hotel has been receiving guests since 1936 when supposedly it was mob-run and had a speakeasy and a brothel downstairs. Later it was the property of Jack Dempsey and the owners of the racehorse Seabiscuit. In 2007, it was recast as a luxury boutique hotel a little more than a block away from the shops and restaurants of the spiffy new Uptown Design District.
