Alberta is one of Portland's newest hipster spots, full of a rotating array of art galleries, coffee shops, boutiques, thrift stores and bars. If you can, aim to visit on the last Thursday of the month to catch the monthly arts festival, Last Thursday.  This event has been going strong for 18 years and has resisted political pressure to charge vendors a selling fee.  Anyone can grab a table and sell their wares so this has a unique, grassroots vibe.  In the summer, the street is closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 - 9:30 for Last Thursday.
