Since the Burma Superstar opened it 1992 in "the other chinatown," it has added locations in Alameda and Oakland. If you haven't tried Burmese, San Francisco is the place to do it outside of Myanmar. With one of the largest Burmese populations in the US, it has more than two dozen restaurants offering Burmese home cooking. The cuisine while distinctive combines the spices and cooking techniques of neighboring India, China, Laos and Thailand. Burma Superstar's rainbow salad and fermented tea leaf salad have been featured on the Food Network. Expect a wait.
